Isis King Short Biography
Isis King is a fashion model who has gained a lot of attention because of her transsexual status. Isis King was born in 1985 in Maryland as a boy. Despite being biologically a male, King says that she always felt more female than male. Even in high school when Isis King announced that (then) he was gay, the term didn’t feel appropriate. Later, Isis King began taking hormone replacement therapy, the first step in transforming into a female.
Isis King’s first media attention came in 2007 when she appeared in a documentary for MSNBC called Born in the Wrong Body. By this time, Isis King had already had moderate success in the fashion world for her designs while earning an associate degree at the Art Institute of Philadelphia and runway modeling. It wasn’t until Isis King appeared in the reality TV show America’s Next Top Model that she really got attention. Isis King made it to the 11th cycle of the series placing her as one of 14 finalists in the contest. While Isis King did not win the ANTM contest, she did help bring the issue of transgendered people into the spotlight.
