To use the Avent Isis, assemble the pump according to the simple instructions. You will then put the silicon petal massager over your breast, making sure that your nipple is in the center and no air is able to escape. Just push down on the Avent Isis handle and it will cause a suction to occur on your breast. The suction of the Avent Isis is gentle but strong enough to get a good milk flow. It is not necessary to completely pump down on the handle of the Avent Isis. Just pump down as much as you need to draw out milk. Hold down on the pump handle so the vacuum remains on your breast for a few seconds. During this time, the Avent Isis will cause milk to flow out even without pumping.
